POPIA Policy
Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013
1. Purpose
This policy sets out how R Loans complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). We are committed to protecting the personal information of all data subjects, including borrowers, agents, and employees.
2. Information Officer
R Loans has appointed an Information Officer responsible for ensuring compliance with POPIA. The Information Officer oversees data protection practices and handles data subject requests.
3. Personal Information We Process
We process personal information necessary for our lending operations, including:
- Identity information (name, ID number, student number)
- Contact information (phone, email, address)
- Financial information (bank account details, loan history)
- Educational information (institution, residence, course)
- Supporting documents (ID copy, proof of residence, bank statements)

We process personal information in accordance with the conditions for lawful processing set out in POPIA, including:

- Processing necessary to protect a legitimate interest

Under POPIA, data subjects have the right to:
- Be notified that their personal information is being collected
- Access their personal information
- Request correction or deletion of their information
- Object to the processing of their information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
6. Security Safeguards
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure personal information against loss, unauthorised access, destruction, and unlawful processing. This includes encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments.
